Basic Scams that most people fall for in India

scam of daily life

The scam has become so common for Indians that they don’t even think that little cheating or fraud falls into the category of scams. However, that isn’t true. These things have their place, and a person can earn a lot by looting a slight amount from everyone. Let me tell you a story.

Gas Pipe Scam

Once a person visited my house claiming to be a maintenance engineer from Bharat Gas. He showed me his id and said, “Sir, I’m here to check your gas pipes for safety purposes.” I allowed him to do the work.

He checked everything keenly, and more than checking, he was examining my house, buttering me for maintaining it so well. I’m a bachelor, and I live away from my family, so do you think a bachelor can ever maintain his house? Height of sugar-coating man!

After inspecting, he said, “Sir, this gas pipe needs to be replaced.” I was confused, so I asked, “It’s been one year I have brought it. Gas pipes usually last for three years.”

“Yes, sir, normally, it lasts for three years only if they have good quality. The shopkeeper might have sold you a cheap quality product.” He had replied cunningly. “Okay. How much will it cost?” I was slightly convinced & didn’t see it as a scam yet.

“500 Rupees only” His answer hit me on the wrong spot. Doubts began to cross my mind. “But usually, gas pipes cost some around 200 Rupees,” I argued.

“It’s a good quality product unlike the last one. It will surely last for three years.” He explained. I could smell something fishy in it—a scam. I thought maybe he was a thief, so I grabbed his collar and punched his nose. He tried to fight back, but I dragged him out of my house. When we got out, the people of my locality told me that he had also changed their gas pipes. So he had replaced 15 pipes in a day in the same locality.

I was so angry that I ended up beating him more. My neighbors told me to let him go as he apologized for his mistake and didn’t want police drama. So I left him.

500 Rupees does seem less from the front but let’s calculate the amount he had earned that day. 500 x 15 = 7500 rupees. Just in a few hours. Imagine a whole day and week. People didn’t care to punish him. How ironic!
