THE HATKESTORY (It’s a different Story)

Once upon a time, there were two kids from different parts of India who knew nothing about each other. They were, like all good kids, working their way through technology degrees in pursuit of a respectable job.

They also got on to the masters bandwagon, because they found that their UG degrees won’t get them their bread and butter. So, they packed their bags and landed at the JNTU campus, Hyderabad, and on a bright sunny morning, they bumped into each other.
“Hey, hi, I am Rohit. Where are you from?” “Hello, Rohit. I am Gopi. I am from Vijayawada.”

Soon, Gopi Krishna and Rohit were hanging out with each other. With gallons of tea and fingers waging a war with keyboards, they were together figuring out Computer programming at JNTU, amidst the life-altering narratives. Gopi the listener, loved Rohit’s narratives – the rational, the analytical, the progressive, and the practical stories. Gopi was also deeply motivated by the story of his milkman – the one who worked 22 hours a day to afford 2 square meals and education for his children and what was amazing about him was, he never knew what it was to complain.

To Gopi, the milkman towered over the mighty and the powerful of the world. Soon, campus interviews were on and both Gopi and Rohit got selected to TCS. During their induction program at Ahmedabad, their new-found freedom got them to appreciate life through a different lens. They attracted more thinkers and talkers into their midst. And they were happy to share and listen to a wider canvas of stories coming from their new friends who debated and dared to question the status quo of everything. As Python and Java filled their days, they looked forward to their story-telling sessions over weekends.

Gopi and Rohit traveled on work to different parts of the country and eventually moved on to different jobs. Placed at Hyderabad, Gopi got exposed to intelligentsia from different domains, video lectures, and workshops at cultural hubs in the city. In all, they met several extraordinary people, quietly tucked away, far from the maddening crowds of urban India. Their stories were awe-inspiring. With time their penchant for stories only got stronger.

When Gopi first suggested, “We must do something to share these stories with more people,” Rohit just nodded. And slowly those simple nods turned to ecstatic agreements. One fine day, in 2016, they took the plunge. They decided to share the stories of these ordinary people living extraordinary lives – Lives that won’t get any TRP ratings but which deserve a lot more attention and celebration. And HATKESTORY.COM was born.
