The Oxford Dictionary defines frustration as the feeling of being upset or annoyed due to being unable to change or achieve something. All of us experience it now and then. Thanks to our highly competitive lives, anxiety and stress levels are only soaring. It is funny how anger is overshadowed by our ability to think logically and how even the slightest incident can result in irritation.
Many of us must have thrown objects onto the floor ranging from pens to expensive electronics. As today’s generation is so tech-savvy, gadgets like phones, tablets, PCs, Smart Devices are a constant source of displeasure when they don’t perform according to our wishes. How many of you have banged the poor TV remote with your palm when it was not switching channels properly?
Gazettes – raising frustration
Today’s Smartphones come with specifications that can give even laptops a run for their money. Yet, people are frustrated with unresponsive apps and phones all the time. Suppose you are familiar with online multiplayer games like Counter-Strike and, nowadays, PUBG. In that case, it can raise frustration to levels where people do not hesitate to break whatever is within reach. Gaming requests on Facebook, hours of phone calls to customer care, low buffering speeds after addiction to blazing bandwidth, call drops, malfunctioning intelligent devices, and many more are causes for frustration nowadays.
All this pain and depression for just one simple reason – “We are not ready to compromise on anything that doesn’t go our way,” at least most of us. Frustration is an emotion, and like always, emotion is not under our control all the time. Stress at workplaces has increased manifold, thanks to rising dependency on technology and more jobs related to Information Technology. Well, I cannot even imagine life without the internet and a daily dose of technology. How many of you dedicate time in your day to social media like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp?
So what can we do to overcome frustration? Well, take a breath of fresh air to try and de-stress, and try not to stay in isolation as that would further intensify frustration. Listening to your favorite music, getting some exercise, using some humor can significantly help alleviate stress. Avoid alcohol at all costs as frustration and alcohol will only worsen the problem. Getting good sleep also dramatically reduces irritability and impatience. In some cases, we can even seek professional help where intense feelings must be recognized and dealt with before they lead to depression.
Frustration is sure to come our way in one way or another and is inevitable. We can at least try and come up with ways to reduce damage. You have to understand that nobody can bring you peace but yourself.
May the Force be with You!
