Social media is often credited as the destroyer of the moral compass of society. While some people are busy spreading venom any chance they get, others, on the contrary, have shaped social media for personal and societal benefit. These people are grinding hard to create content that brings a change to our everyday lives.
The journey from Ranveer Allahbadia to BeerBiceps
One such person is Ranveer Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps. Today, this name is a brand itself, but all the success didn’t come easy for the 27-year old. Like many teenagers, Ranveer didn’t have a clear purpose or goal in his life. His world revolved around partying and eating unhealthy food. He had always been a chubby kid, but that never seemed to bother him while consuming all the junk food. All of this unhealthiness started to take a severe toll on his health.
At the young age of 15, he was diagnosed with high cholesterol and gallbladder stones. Due to his heavy weight, he also suffered some severe shoulder injuries after falling. He was operated upon both the shoulders. Finally, he realized it was time to get his life on track away from all the doldrum.
He decided to lose weight through proper training but could not focus on his engineering entrance exam preparation. He was unable to get back on track for two years.
Ranveer ventured on his weight loss journey at the age of 18. He started diligently working out and completely cut out junk from his diet. He started training with his coach Binny Sreedharan and soon completed a fitness certification course from Peak Performance- a fitness academy run by his coach.
After graduating from an engineering college, Ranveer did not have his plans for what he wanted to do next. He never had a great interest in engineering. Out of the three options after his graduation: pursuing an MBA, moving abroad, or getting a job, he decided to choose none. Taking advantage of his interest in fitness, he planned to launch a start-up, which he described as ‘uber for fitness and yoga coaches,’ along with his coach.
When they took this idea to an investor, the investor told them that one of them had to get famous to make this idea work. Ranveer then decided to use YouTube to put out the word regarding fitness. It marked the beginning of the famed BeerBiceps.
In August 2015, when Ranveer started BeerBiceps, he had no idea that YouTube paid for creating content. His main aim was to address fitness-related issues that were prevalent in India. According to him, there were many fitness channels and trainers, but most did not give the proper knowledge or were not apt for the Indian audience. Realizing this as an opportunity to educate the people about the right things, he started working on it without wasting time.
When naming his YouTube channel, he chose BeerBiceps because he believed that having fun and being fit went hand in hand. Through his medium, he wanted people to learn how to balance the two perfectly. Little did he know that this name would become such a massive success in the future and how millions of people would feel connected to it.
Coming from a family of doctors and engineers, making such a drastic career change was Ranveer’s bold move. His mother was worried a bit at the start, but his father always supported him. There were times when they got seriously concerned about his career, but once they saw his offices and how well he was managing everything, they were relieved.
What started as a personal journey soon became a social phenomenon. With just 50 thousand subscribers on YouTube in October 2016, BeerBiceps has reached 3.02 million subscribers in 2020. But Ranveer does not let the fame get to his head.
He always sets the bar of expectations higher for himself. Having a career on YouTube was never his dream. He always wanted to be a successful entrepreneur and have a business set-up outside of YouTube.
Ranveer started curating interesting content and podcasts with topics revolving around productivity, spirituality, health, and lifestyle, taking his interest outside of fitness. He started his podcast journey through The Ranveer Show, which has been topping the Spotify charts lately. By creating podcasts, he wanted people to add value to their life and learn something from the experiences of people who belonged to all spheres of life. He emphasized that everyone should value physical and mental health equally and that one should never stop learning.
In his podcast, he brings people worldwide to share their knowledge and expertise on a level that no Indian has done before. He has interacted with notable personalities like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Priyanka Chopra, Saif Ali Khan, Gaur Gopal Das, Jay Shetty, to name a few.
Adding another feather to his cap, he and his friend Viraj Sheth started Monk Entertainment– an influencer marketing and management website in early 2018. This website is an ensemble of young creators who specialize in all things related to digital marketing- from video production to social media managing.
Who knew that a boy once lost searching for the meaning of his life would influence so many people to change themselves? Today Ranveer is no longer that unhealthy, always ready to party type of guy. He has realized his life’s purpose and is working hard each day to get one step closer to it.
People like Ranveer set an example for the younger generation that no matter what situation you are in, there are no limits to what you can’t do once you decide to get up and break the walls.
