Chandu’s life is nothing short of a movie filled with just the right amount of drama, pain, problems, and triumph with timely twists and turns. When all these things come together, what we get is a beautiful story to be inspired. Chandu went from being a carefree or somewhat reckless guy to someone seeking enlightenment through the path of yoga and meditation. The leap from one extreme to another is what gives Chandu’s story the Hatke factor.

Chandu’s Early Life

He was never interested in studies and was promoted from one class to another only because of his father’s influence. It was only in his 7th grade that he developed some interest in academics. Being the second of the three children to his parents, he always had it his way and became bossy at one point. Even the fact that his father had left his hometown and was struggling to make ends meet in an unknown city (Vizag), whose sole aim was to give his children a better life, didn’t compel Chandu to take more interest in studies.

The Family’s Ray of Hope

Unlike him, both his siblings excelled in academics. It made Chandu a little more reluctant towards the betterment of his career. It gave him the confidence that his siblings would take care of him even if he didn’t make it big in life. His own words created a sort of dependence that is not a state anyone should be. Chandu’s elder brother was always among the toppers of his class. His consistent academic excellence got him a job as an assistant driver in the Railway Recruitment Board when he was just 19 years old. Chandu’s father was surprised to see that his dream came true so quickly.

An Unexpected Loss

Even before the family could enjoy his brother’s success, they were stricken by grief when he passed away after accidentally drowning in a water body. It was the first significant blow Chandu experienced in life. It jolted him out of his reckless or carefree attitude, and he took life more seriously. Even here, Chandu says he nurtured the hope that he’d be able to take up his brother’s job sooner or later.

His attitude of dependence resurfaced, and this reduced his determination in preparing for government exams. For the next five years, his father did everything he could to get Chandu into his brother’s job. But all his efforts went in vain when Chandu was considered ineligible for the job.

However, things aren’t always the same. Chandu finally secured a job in the Railways. Life seemed to have taken a good turn when his sister got married just sometime after Chandu got a job. But this happiness didn’t last long. His sister experienced a failed marriage. Now, Chandu was responsible for taking care of his old parents, his sister, and nephew. He endured it all with courage. Life had more rude shocks for him when his father passed away.

His passing away was a tragedy in itself. Chandu’s father was fighting depression after his elder son’s death. Despite his disturbed mind, the older man went around looking for work to improve the family’s financial condition. He also went around trying to acquire the money they must get after the death of his elder son. On one such occasion, his father was at CMR Garden in Anandapuram, feeding a cow.

Suddenly, the cow attacked the older man with her horns. He suffered a severe blow to his head, lay brain dead for a while, and passed away. Chandu could not understand why things were going so wrong in his life. Chandu accepted fate and continued living. His family insisted that he should get married, but he had different plans for life. Seeing the troubles around him, Chandu felt he was better off as a bachelor.

The Shortest Love Story

It is when he met Sneha. A lady who played an essential role in the latter part of his life. He and Sneha met through a familiar friend and connected well within a short period. Although he never wanted to be married earlier. But, their connection strengthened so much that he felt that he should spend the rest of his life with a girl like Sneha.

The Turning Point

The turning point in Chandu’s life came when his friend, Janaki Ram, introduced him to meditation. Within weeks he put his first steps towards a new phase of life under the able guidance of his guru Patriji. He was now not only able to endure life’s challenges with a peaceful mind, but he would also encourage others to do the same. He faced every situation with neutrality and steadiness. Situations didn’t disturb him like before. As fate would have it, he met Sneha and got married to her with the consent of both their families.

Finally… A Happy Ending

The couple has a child, and they love to spend most of their time educating people about the true essence of yoga and spirituality. Chandu’s spiritual journey has taught him the importance of a vegetarian diet and that a yogic life does not mean abandoning all the comforts of life. Instead, he says it is all about embracing spirituality by incorporating it into regular life.

Both He and Sneha went from one place to another, teaching people about true happiness through their talks and classical dance performances, respectively. They also have a YouTube channel called Chandu Tho Sneham (Friendship with Chandu), in which they describe the true meaning of living spiritually with examples from their life.
