Jessica and Treysi’s love story goes by the saying, “Love is a meeting of two souls, fully accepting the dark and the light within each other, bound by the courage to grow through struggle into bliss.”
They proved that words could not define love. Distance, cultural differences, and language barriers make no difference.
It’s like a force of nature, unstoppable. We fall for a person without realizing a thing. Let’s hear it from Jessica herself.
I’m Jessica. I’m from Mumbai. I studied B.A. in Psychology and English from Sophia College, and I was also interested in photography, so I decided to explore it as a career.
I used to work with a photographer when he suggested working on a cruise ship because it would be a life-changing experience. He said, “You’ll travel and meet many different people,” So I went ahead and applied for it. Luckily, I got selected.
Onboard, I made so many friends and got to meet people from all over the world. After two months was when Treysi became my roommate. She was reticent, and I was the only one who tried to make conversation.
When Treysi had initially joined, I had proposed to help her out with work in many ways as no one supported me when I was a newbie. Treysi, on the other hand, was very shy. She wouldn’t speak to anyone except for her best friend unless it were work-related and preferred spending time alone. After her best friend left the ship, I was the only person around whom she felt comfortable. Since we were roommates, we grew closer and started spending time together after work.
I started having feelings for Treysi all of a sudden. I had never even seen it that way.
When I casually mentioned how I felt for her to my best friend, he said it would never happen.
I was scared of losing her as a friend, and I didn’t want to meddle in our relationship as roommates. I had no idea if she was attracted to girls or not. Overall, I was clueless about everything.
Post my breakup, my feelings for her were overgrowing. I found myself daydreaming about telling her my feelings and her feelings the same. I shared these feelings with my closest friend over drinks, and he told me to go for it. It was my luck that my daydream turned into reality.

She said she liked me back! Her sudden confession left me baffled. I probed further, and she disclosed that she had always liked me but never said a thing as I was in a relationship with someone else. That act of respect that she showed towards me and my relationship gave me an insight into the amazing woman she was.
It’s been two years since Jessica and Treysi have been together. These two years have been the best years of my life. I got to travel all over with my girlfriend. She came to India for a month, and I took her to Goa because it’s one of my favorite places in India. Nobody questioned our relationship, and neither have we ever been subjected to any kind of judgment or rude remarks. People in India and abroad have been very accepting of our relationship. It gives me hope for the future.
My family has been amazingly supportive, and we all get along very well. Treysi continues to keep in touch with my parents via WhatsApp. My entire family made her feel like she was a part of the family the entire time she was living with us.
Like any other story, Jessica and Treysi, too, have their struggles.
Our future is uncertain as we live so on opposite sides of the world, same-sex marriages are not legal in either of our countries. It means we have to move out of our countries. There is so much pressure on us to make our careers and move out because we know that’s the only way to be together. 2020 was supposed to be excellent. We started our contract in Spain, but unfortunately, the pandemic hit, and we got separated.
We are both home in our respective countries, waiting for the day we will see each other again. Our jobs, too, have been suspended since we work in the tourism industry. These are challenging times for us, but at least we have each other. We are counting our blessings.
One of the most memorable moments that I share with her is the day of her birthday. I’m feeling deliriously happy just recalling the incident. She shares her birthday with Valentine’s day.
I decided to throw her a surprise birthday celebration and tried to do as much as possible with my limited resources. I asked my close friend to arrange a cake for her birthday somehow. She didn’t like her birthday, so I wanted to do something that would change her mind and replace all our memories with a happy one. Her wide smile and tears streaming down her face when we all shouted happy birthday are something I’ll never forget.
All I want to say to the ones waiting for their one true love is this quote by Rumi,
“Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along.”
After a few days of making our relationship official, I felt like I’d known Treysi for my entire life.
