Today, the globe has become much more interconnected. As you already know, the demand for volunteers has skyrocketed ever since the pandemic outbreak. But very few of us actually think about volunteering or helping others. According to Oprah Winfrey, “Helping others is a method of benefiting ourselves.”
In the instance of Priyanshu Chouksey, these words have legitimately turned true. Instead of relying on his elders or others to volunteer, this young man took the initiative to transform himself and serve others. Every individual should learn more about him and his motivation for serving as a traffic volunteer.
Priyanshu Chouksey – My Story
Let’s hear his words, “My name is Priyanshu Chouksey, and I am sixteen years old. ‘Real change begins with you’ is a famous proverb, and I couldn’t agree more. If we wish to see an actual change in our nation, it will have to begin with each us.
I’ve been helping the traffic police in Indore in my spare time.
The number of people suffering from traffic-related accidents is expected to rise to almost 151,000 this year. Every day, traffic cops are on their job, doing their best to keep the roads safe. They are putting their lives on the line for our nation.
Since I was a child, I’ve always wanted to help my nation in any way possible. My age and lack of other resources made it difficult for me to serve my country in any other way. So, when I learned that some people in Indore are serving as traffic volunteers, I decided to join them.
Many people told me that I was too young and inexperienced to be working on the roads. They weren’t wrong. I still continue to hear from folks that I should not be working for free and instead should be compensated somehow. However, I don’t pay much attention to what people have to say. I’ve always wanted to help my nation in some manner. Besides that, I have the steadfast support of my family behind me at all times. Working for something you believe in as your duty is what volunteering is all about.” says this proud volunteer who has been helping the traffic police without any return.
This fearless young man continued his volunteering for two years. He does this even amid the pandemic. He continues, “In my youth, I had a strong desire to serve my nation and contribute to society. I have known that car accidents have claimed many people’s lives ever since I was a kid because one of the parties was either reckless or uninformed of the danger. When I finally decided to volunteer at 14, I knew it was not against the regulations. I used mythical figures like Yamraj (the god of death) to create skits that taught traffic regulations and performed them at several awareness-raising events with my friends.
My first day of volunteering was filled with anxiety and fear since I didn’t want to say or do anything incorrectly and create confusion. The weight on my shoulders was not that of a hardship, but rather of an incredible responsibility that I could safely send all the individuals back to their family who would be waiting for them to come home.”
Priyanshu also faced many overwhelming and nerve-wracking situations during his volunteering. He says, “This one time when I was working, I saw an ambulance driving by, along with a high-ranking official’s automobile. For humanity, I took a gamble and let the ambulance pass by halting the official’s vehicle even though it was against the law. It was dangerous for me to do it, and I could have been banned from volunteering again. Still, to my astonishment, he came out of his vehicle and thanked me for doing the right thing.
I was anxious about how he might react. To him, my actions were evidence that humanity still existed, and he remarked that saving someone’s life was more important than respecting him.
Today, people in slums are educated about COVID and immunizations, and we’re providing them with free masks and sanitizers. Volunteering wasn’t as easy as one might think it to be. Someone once told me that I was ‘Pagal’ (crazy) because I was putting my own life in danger. Still, at this point, I don’t care!” smiles this young man who decided to go the extra mile for others around him.
Priyanshu’s sincerity, bravery, and story reflect the glittering selflessness that he exudes. Society needs to appreciate people like him for his extraordinary thoughts and accomplishments at such a young age. But his dreams do not stop here. Priyanshu wants to take his aspirations much ahead and serve society on a broader scale as he grows older.
