Currently, the environment is highly hostile even for the people staying inside their houses. So Hatke Story has brought this ‘Tales of Corona Survivors’ series to spread positivity and awareness among the crowd. We will be featuring social workers, corona patients, doctors, and their families in this series. Only to tell you what is going on the ground.
To add to this series, we got connected to Abhishek Malviya. He was tested positive in April. He was home quarantined for 15 days but, throughout the time, remained conscious and saved his family from getting infected with Coronavirus. Other than him, no one from his family contracted the virus. He couldn’t avoid being a patient, but he avoided being a carrier. We wanted to know how he did it.
So we contacted him to know his experience. Let’s hear it from him. Through his experience and advice, you can avoid involving your family if you are positive too.
Corona Survivors Abhishek Malviya
I’m Abhishek Malviya. I belong to Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh). On 18th April, I realized that I had developed mild covid 19 when I was walking with my mother on the balcony. I felt weak and experienced a slight fever. I thought it to be a normal viral fever, so I took Paracetamol and slept. But the fever didn’t go away.
The following day, I experienced fever, slight pain in my head, and mild weakness in bones and muscles. I told my parents about my current situation, and they were angry. They said, ‘You might have eaten something wrong in your dinner.’ I said, ‘I haven’t eaten anything wrong.’ My answer worried them. Deep down, we were scared as we all had the same doubt in our heads, but we didn’t give in to the fear that easily. Again, I took some antiviral drug, but my fever didn’t disappear, and there was no recovery. After two-three days, we decided to visit the doctor.
So we went to a local physician near our house. When I disclosed my symptoms to the doctor, he advised me to go for RT PCR or CT Scan. He said, ‘Your symptoms are similar to Covid. Go for the test, and then I will check further.’ Honestly, I was shocked. Not that Covid was a new thing, we had seen people getting infected in our family background, but I was the only suspected member in my family. At that time, the situation was quite critical in Ujjain. Many people were dying due to covid 19. There was no oxygen, proper medicines, or beds in the hospital.
In Ujjain, we have three options for the Covid test: one charitable hospital, a private hospital, and a government hospital. Going to a government hospital seemed risky, so we went to a private lab. Then the following day, we (my father and I) visited a local lab, but they said, ‘You need to book an appointment here. Then next day your test will be conducted.’ It didn’t go well with us. We were already late, so we didn’t want to wait any longer.
Corona Survivor Abhishek Malviya – My Story
Someone from the family shared several people who conducted the test at home and provided the report the next day. He charged more than others, but we weren’t concerned about money. We agreed and waited for him to come. In two to three hours, he came and took the sample.
The next day, my report came, and yes, it was positive. It was a very tough day for my family. I was so disturbed and tense that I began to shiver out of fear. I realized that I’d made a massive mistake by not being more careful. I’ve risked my family’s life. I had taken care of everything, and I never went anywhere. We were in lockdown. I didn’t meet anyone. I didn’t have any travel history, and I took all the precautions but still, I was suspected. I have no idea how I got it. Numerous negative thoughts knocked on my head. For a while, I couldn’t do anything to stop them.
I calmed myself, took a deep breath, and buckled up to deal with the situation. One thing that I decided was I wouldn’t let my family go through it. I’ll make sure I don’t pass the virus to them. After the report, I was isolated in the room. They provide me with all the necessary items like utensils, masks, sanitizer, pillow, and blanket.
My symptoms were mild, so I didn’t suffer severe pain, chest congestion, or oxygen shortage. During the quarantine period, my family and friends supported me. We maintained a positive and healthy environment throughout the time. They switched off the television, so I don’t hear any negative news about the covid deaths. My mother cooked protein-rich food.
We would talk to each other from a distance. We did all the funny things to distract our minds from reality. I killed time by watching movies and comedy shows, by doing video or audio calls with my friends. To keep stress away, I avoided watching the news at any cost.
I took some severe measurements to save my family from contracting the virus. Like I used to wear a mask even when I was alone. Sometimes I slept with a mask on my face. While going to the washroom or terrace, I avoided touching things in my houses such as doorknobs, stair railings, windows, or any other thing in my house. My family used to wear a mask 24*7 even when they were only around each other. With me, my entire family was quarantined. They also didn’t get out until I was tested negative.
My mother would sanitize our home daily. I’d wash my clothes and utensils, and I didn’t take their help in anything. I’d suggest that if your covid is mild, please stay far away from your family because it can be dangerous. You never know how it’s going to affect others. It’s better to be careful than to regret later.
Fourteen days later, I was tested negative, and I breathed in relief because no other member of my family was positive. I didn’t become a corona carrier. It’s been a month, I have recovered fully, and no one in my family is infected.
I learned from this experience that keeping a positive approach is very important while dealing with the virus. You will come over it if you have the spirit and positive approach. Family support matters a lot, and with your family being around, you can win the battle against covid 19. There is nothing to fear.
