“If you get an amazing opportunity and you don’t know how to do that; first accept it and learn how to do that” these words by Sir Richard Branson have influenced Thasveer M Salim, a veteran Naval Artificer and gave the courage to enter entrepreneurship.

Thasveer M Salim is a graduate in BSc Aeronautics from Cochin University of Science and Technology and served as an Aircraft Artificer in Indian Navy for 20 years. He hails from Kochi, he served in the Indian Navy at Goa, Vizag, and Kochi.

Journey of Thasveer M Salim post retirement

Following his journalist Dad, he stepped into Public Relations post-retirement and started Media Waves, a PR, advertising, and Event management company based out in Goa. Like any other event management companies, his business was also on a standstill position during the pandemic. It was hard to survive without income and depending only on the savings. Uncertainty was at its peak and he was looking for some or other opportunities to diversify.

Believing that ‘agility‘ is the key, he jointly ventured with Skillmap Training and Services Pvt Ltd company. The transformation from a Navy veteran to a corporate was a difficult task. But accepting the changes and being ready to adapt to those changes helped him get results in a short span of time.

As a CEO his primary initiative was to expand the business nationally and globally and the main challenge was the pandemic situation and financial crisis of the people.

For helping the people in pandemic and to expand the business, Thasveer M Salim has introduced the concept of virtual franchising. There are huge investments and infrastructure required to start a franchise and in the current situation, people can’t afford that.

So, we initiated Virtual Franchising without any investment and operating on a work from home mode, said Thasveer M Salim. “Currently, we have more than 100 virtual franchisees not only in India but also in Sri Lanka. We are happy that we can help out some families to earn during this pandemic” added Mr. Salim.

We should be able to adapt and respond to the changes. Agile organizations only can survive and sustain themselves during these situations. As a training company, another challenge we faced was classroom training and corporate training. We have created our own digital platform for carrying out corporate training and professional courses.

Also understanding the boom in the current education trends and job opportunities, Skillmap has tied up with Indian Blockchain Institute to start blockchain courses in-country. The application of Blockchain technology has a fantastic future in different sectors such as health care, banking services, real estate, supply chain management, digital advertising, forecasting, cybersecurity, networking, etc. “Skillmap is very happy to associate with IBI in this future revolution of Blockchain and we look forward to promoting Blockchain classes in the entire state.”

As Thasveer M Salim said earlier, “I was very new to this corporate training field and blockchain technology, but I was ready to learn and understand how to do that and it helps me in succeeding. Also being agile and changing into virtual franchising helped us generate a huge business volume and on the flip-side, we could help a lot of families to earn their bread and butter.”
