Life took her from science to dancing, from Meerut to Mumbai. She endured it all with a smile. Shilpi Saini emerged victorious from every challenge life threw at her. A stranger to the art has now become a passionate Kathak dancer. Shilpi Saini’s driving forces in her journey have been the encouragement of her parents and a poem by the famous Indian poet Sohan Lal Dwivedi. She holds on to the poem as a life mantra, inspiring readers to fight back at challenges no matter how difficult life may get.
Dancing Journey of Shilpi Saini
Shilpi Saini takes us down memory lane and narrates her story of transformation from a non-dancer to a Kathak exponent. At the age of seven, she got in touch with this classical dance form, and then her strict teachers molded the little girl into a beautiful dancer. There was no looking back after this. Both opportunities and obstacles made their way to Shilpi. She grabbed every opportunity and turned every obstacle into a life-changing lesson.
Although she momentarily doubted her potential, Shilpi didn’t let this hold her back from doing what she loved. Star Plus’s popular dance reality show, Aaja Maahi Ve, became a significant turning point in Shilpi Saini’s life. Despite being ineligible to participate in the show because of being very young, Shilpi surprised the world by becoming the runner-up at the show. Meeting actor Ronit Roy was a moment of pride for this budding dancer.

The Achiever’s Future Plan
It made her instantly famous in Meerut, but it didn’t deter her from her path, even for a split second. That day Shilpi Saini had silenced all the discouraging comments that attempted to drag her down with pessimism about her career choice for being a girl. While sharpening her skills in Kathak, Shilpi continued to pursue her studies. She completed her BCA along with a filmmaking course.
Shilpi Saini hopes to earn global recognition for Kathak as a dance form through any possible medium, be it stage, social media, or films. Today, ten years later, as a dance exponent and president of Shilpi’s Dance Academy & Activity Center, she has only one message for all of us – Give your best to whatever you do and never doubt yourself. Expect only from yourself, not from others!
