70th Independence Day
The Republic of India celebrates its 70th Independence Day this 15th August 2016. Most of us would watch the flag hoisting ceremony at Red Fort, New Delhi, or attend a ceremony locally to participate in Independence celebrations. Here are few events to watch out for that would make this year’s Independence Day celebration even more special at home.
AR Rahman to perform at United Nations General Assembly
MS Subbulakshmi, the first musician ever to be the recipient of Bharat Ratna, was the first Indian artist to perform at the UN in 1966. After 50 years, AR Rahman will be the second Indian artist after MS Subbulakshmi to perform at the UN. He will perform at the UN General Assembly in homage to MS Subbulakshmi on India’s 70th Independence day.
Watch India’s Paratroopers – earning the badge
Get a chance to view the extreme physical and mental stress our beloved soldiers go through to earn the honor of being part of the Indian Army’s elite strike force, “Indian Paratrooper Special forces.” Sit at home and watch what it takes to succeed in one of the most challenging military selection courses in the world. The TV program airs on the discovery channel at 9 PM on 15th August 2016.
