Growing up with stories

Meet Chitman Kaur, a mother, and an entrepreneur, who is on a mission to help children grow up with stories through HeyCloudy. After spending 15 years in the corporate world, she has evolved to create something close to her heart. She created an immersive and learning-based story listening app for young children and parents. Children and stories are two elements that Chitman feels firmly attached to, which led to the foundation of HeyCloudy. We recently got in touch with Chitman, where we had a very vivid conversation about the genesis of HeyCloudy.

So, what is HeyCloudy?

HeyCloudy is a one-of-a-kind audio content company that curates and creates content meant to educate young children. It is an immersive story listening easy-to-use app for children. The concept of HeyCloudy also intends to teach learning through stories.

Today, most parents feel worried about their children’s increased screen time, especially at such critical hours when kids are cooped up at home for an indefinite period. HeyCloudy comes as a boon to parents who want to keep their children engaged and educated meaningfully without screen time while they finish up their work.

The vision

Chitman recalls, “Growing up; we moved around a lot. – new place, new school, friends and almost everything around would be new. One constant thing was my mother telling me stories every single day. Somehow, she had a story about anything and everything. Just the right story for that moment or a feeling I was going through. It was as if my life extended beyond my surroundings into these stories.

When I had my elder daughter a few years back, these memories came back to me. I have always shared a special bond with my mother, and I wanted to share it with my daughter. It took a while, but I realized that stories were a part of that bond. I eventually started forming a routine of reading books. However, telling a story has its challenges, especially in today’s busy world, often mentally elsewhere. Another challenge is to recall a story to tell.”

And thus, HeyCloudy was born.

Chitman started HeyCloudy with a vision to support parents who want to bond with their children through stories. Of course, they also pass on the values and learnings along with some fun. In Jan 2019, HeyCloudy was born with a simple mission that children worldwide need stories to grow up with.

The HeyCloudy club members

The active listeners of HeyCloudy are in the age group of 2-8 years old. Since it is a screen-free and ad-free app, children can listen to the stories without interruption while the parents can have peace of mind. “We have also created a Facebook group of parents with a strong community of 3000+ engaged parents and growing.”

Fun Facts:

“My daughter thinks that mamma made HeyCloudy for her… where I tell her story once, and she can listen and re-listen on the platform multiple times. I had to sit down and explain that children worldwide use it to have a bit of fun and learn some amazing things. Once we started the subscription, she went to her dad and asked him to pay money to mamma to put more and more stories on it. It was hilarious.”
