We are always asked to do one task as there’s little doubt that juggling between multiple jobs or being in multiple roles can be challenging. In this article, we’ll explore the advantages and disadvantages of doing more than one job. From the story of Neha Chatlani, a content creator and working as a full-time HR recruiter, we will get to know how she copes up with all the challenges that we might face while doing multiple jobs.
Neha Chatlani – My Story
Hi, I am Neha Chatlani. I am a content creator. It all started five years back when I uploaded my first video on my YouTube channel. It took a lot of effort to put myself out there to millions of people who would watch and judge me. But I braved it, and that is the one step I’m the proudest of. After that, there was no looking back.
It’s been a beautiful journey so far, and I look at it being more accomplishing with every passing day.
While working as a full-time HR recruiter for years, I realized that my job had become monotonous and did not give me the creative outlet I was looking for.
That’s when, along with my job, I simultaneously started my YouTube channel to unleash my creative side. I learned how to shoot and edit on my own by watching YouTube videos. My schedule was completely packed with a desk job from Monday to Friday and shooting and editing on weekends. It was hectic but at the same time satisfying knowing that I was moving closer to my vision.
Content creation is an industry not easily understood by people around. People often question it as being a dangerous profession. Colleagues and friends didn’t look at this as a successful career option. They often criticized and even laughed at the whole idea.
Another obstacle was the negativity from viewers, which is a given when you’re a content creator. It’s not easy, it’s pretty demotivating, and it demotivated me to a large extent too, but then you need to see the immense love and support you receive against the few hate comments and move on.
I have always loved helping people around me. Many of my colleagues and friends would come to me for advice on skincare tips, outfit suggestions, gifting ideas, communication tips, etc.
Makeup and Skincare were always something I was interested in, and I started making videos on the same, giving my honest reviews and opinions on various products I tried.
It wasn’t too difficult for me to execute as I had sufficient knowledge about my niche, I had an excellent phone to shoot with and a laptop to edit. I did make a few more investments later, like a Tripod, camera, backdrops, Ring light, and editing software.
My biggest challenge was that juggling between a full-time job and content creation wasn’t the easiest thing, but when you work hard towards achieving something, everything seems to fall in place. Of course, once I started earning from my platform, I quit my job.
Everything in life is an experience that teaches you something, good or bad. So I don’t hold any regret.
There is an incident that I would love to share with my readers. There was a low phase in my life where I was too affected by the flak I was receiving on my YouTube channel, so I decided to take a break for a few months. I was attending a wedding in Hyderabad when one of my viewers, a 10th standard student, came up to me, excited to click a photograph.
She was an ardent viewer who watched almost all my videos and told me that she had been waiting for my next video eagerly and would check every day if I had uploaded anything. That just made me realize that if a few people dislike you, there are a million more who love you. So just because someone does not like your work, don’t leave it because many more love it.
My plans are, Someday, I would love to launch my brand.
Apart from being published in several magazines and newspapers as one of the top creators, I have been a panelist and judge for a few fashion shows and held a master class with a leading fashion brand. My journey has inspired a lot of people to choose the route of being their boss.
