Sensitive About Overweight Body – Don’t Be

Overweight Body - Don't Be Extra Sensitive About it
Overweight Body - Don't Be Extra Sensitive About it

It’s a story of my school of the time when I was in 11th standard. I had a group of besties. One among them was overweight, and she was highly conscious and sensitive about it. The girl is talented, very sensible and beautiful. Everyone was attracted to her nature, but she was extra cautious due to her weight.

She’d never dress up and stay very simple, won’t wear jeans and top, only loose-fitting suits. I can recall an incident that will show you how self-conscious she was.

The Incident with my Sensitive friend

We were studying on our maths tuition. Our teacher told her to turn on the fan as it was within her reach. She stood up to switch it on, but something got entangled in her feet, and she lost her balance. Accidentally, she fell on a girl, but no one was injured as the fall was minor.

The whole class started laughing. Everyone was whispering the same line “Thank God the fall was minor; otherwise, what would have happened to Sakshi. Almighty saved her life.” They said it in a witty manner. My friend was already sensitive, so she couldn’t control her emotions and started crying. Silent tears came out of her eyes, drenched her cheeks. Imagine a 17-year-old girl crying in front of 30 other students.

Our teacher yelled to maintain silence and everything went back to normal. While returning, I asked her about it. She avoided the conversation and replied, “I got hurt physically. That’s why I cried. It has nothing to do with their reaction.”

I answered, “You cried because everyone started laughing at you.” My comment infuriated her badly. Without listening further, she yelled, “That’s what you think of me, right. Fine, I’m like this, and I don’t care what you think.” I wanted to explain, but she didn’t listen and walked away. It disturbed me a lot. I didn’t mean to hurt her in any way.

The next day, I went to her house to explain and said, “See, you didn’t let me finish my sentence. I just wanted to tell you that you must not feel self-conscious. We all have our flaws and faults. Don’t be extra sensitive about your overweight body. People say a lot, but we shouldn’t let them rule over us.” After hearing my words, she forgave me, and we are still best friends.
