Helping People Fight Hunger In Pandemic – Nagasree Naidu

Nagasree Naidu

Currently, the environment is highly hostile even for the people staying inside their houses. So Hatke Story has brought this ‘Tales of Corona Survivors’ series to spread positivity and awareness among the crowd. We will be featuring social workers, corona patients, doctors, and their families in this series. Only to tell you what is going on the ground.

To add to this series, we got connected to Nagasree Naidu. She is a UPSC aspirant as well as a national-level player of Throwball, Kabbadi, and Cricket. Nagasree lives in Hyderabad with her family. Apart from being a student and player, she is a social worker too. For a few years, she has been working for the betterment of Indian society. She is a volunteer in the Humanity Welfare Society, an Indian delegate, and a member of the one-month CEO program of the Royal Welfare Society. Nagasree has been working as a Covid Warrior for quite a long time. She is involved in food distribution services.

We wanted to know her journey and appreciate her efforts, so we connected with her to know more about her life and experience. So here is another covid story for you. Let’s hear it from her.

Nagasree Naidu – My story

I’m Nagasree from Ponnur Andhrapradesh, but currently, I am staying in Hyderabad. I pursued B.A. in Economics, and currently, I am preparing to crack UPSC exams. Since my childhood, I was always inclined to sports, so I’m a national player of Throwball, Kabbadi, and Cricket.

Despite having all these things in my life, I used to feel a vacuum in my heart as if something was missing. That void motivated me to work as a social worker. I learned to donate from school. In 7th standard, I donated sanitary napkins. It was my first service. It impacted my emotional and mental conscience as there was a feeling of satisfaction whenever I donated anything. I wanted to keep doing it. So that feeling stayed inside me.

Other than this, I’m very sensitive, and I can’t see anyone in pain. So the negative news of people dying due to hunger or lack of necessities pinches me a lot. So I decided to become a social worker and help people in their time of need. I shared the thought with my family. My parents encouraged me, and they motivated me to do something different with my life. Many girls in our country can’t do anything because their families are not supportive, but my case was different.

I began to work as a social activist and got connected with multiple NGOs. Later, I started traveling to different places to know more about their problems and to offer their solutions. After allocations, I took feedback from the people. Then, I got a chance in the One Month CEO program in Switzerland. This program included MNC companies and 17000’s NGOs, and I was selected to participate in this program in a group discussion.

Now, I am a volunteer in the Humanity Welfare Society and Indian delegate and a member of one monthly CEO program of the Royal Welfare Society. Before the pandemic, I used to work as a coordinator. Usually, I used to meet people to know more about their concerns or issues. Then I used to forward the information to the higher authorities for better assistance and sort out the issue.

During the pandemic, I worked as a food distributor and served those people who required food. People would contact us if they needed food, and we’d reach the place to deliver the food. We would go to different places, and there was no category. We never divided or differentiated, and we served everyone. Whosoever needs help can come to us.

While distributing food, we were careful with sanitization, and we followed all the Covid protocols. We have paid all the expenses from our savings. Till now, we have supported approximately 12000 people in terms of food, economically and medically.

I feel that there is no such thing as an objective reality. It is our way of thinking. In my opinion, social work can help people in handling the complexity of life. It will also promote the smoother functioning of society. As a person, I feel so relaxed and satisfied when I see people thanking me, and I know I can never get this satisfaction in a 9 to 5 job. It’s different to see others happy because of you.

That’s why I always encourage people to be a leader and not a follower. However, sometimes you need to follow too but what I mean is don’t be passive in life, bring your contribution. You have something to give that no one in this world has. Everyone is born with unique qualities, so use them in serving society. We must help people in this situation. So please help people as much as you can and spread humanity and awareness about it.
