Akashdeep Sidhu – His Story
Akashdeep recalls one specific instance from his childhood where he was supposed to perform a convict (a runaway fugitive) in his school play, ‘The Bishop and The Candlesticks,’ written by William Shakespeare. He had practiced for this role standing in front of the mirror for hours and hours together. His character’s lines were lengthy, and he had to display a variety of complex emotions, but Akashdeep wasn’t deterred. Akashdeep memorized his lines so well that he received a standing ovation from the audience. He earned tremendous appreciation from everyone, including his teachers, and they encouraged him to pursue his passion for acting.
Even in college, Akashdeep conducted and performed in several plays and took part in radio shows. He won an acting competition at the time of his first job. Akashdeep is a trained radio jockey as well. He got this opportunity by winning a national-level RJ hunt conducted by “Radio Adda.”
Currently, Akashdeep is working in a famous consumer durables firm named ‘Wonderchef.’ But career-wise, he has worked in famous worldwide MNCs such as Panasonic, L&T, and Maharatna PSU – BPCL.
Another side of Akashdeep’s personality is his love for meditation. He has been highly spiritual since childhood. He had done his first Art of Living course at the age of 17, which helped him do better in his studies, hobbies, and interests. Art of living’s course impacted his life positively, and he was able to achieve his dreams because of that. But this was not something that happened by chance.
During his early teenage years, Akashdeep has faced much pressure related to studies, coaching classes, and co-curricular activities. One day, he was sitting alone and was very sad. After seeing that, his sister asked him why he was sad, and upon understanding his concern, she took him to a Satsang that The Art of Living Foundation was organizing.
At first, Akashdeep was hesitant to go there, but somehow his sister convinced him and took him to attend it. He was under the impression that some old monk would be delivering lectures to an aged audience there. But what he witnessed was something very different. At the Satsang, the old and young alike had broad smiles on their faces, and a man with great charisma on his face was playing the guitar and singing soulful bhajans. It inspired Akashdeep a lot, and he decided that he wanted to be a part of this foundation. He enrolled and completed a happiness program first, followed by many other courses.
Akashdeep started indulging in various social services by becoming a volunteer with Art of Living. While studying in college, he had appeared to write an exam for a blind student whose helper had backed out suddenly.
That blind girl, too, was from the Art of Living organization. She was pleased to receive help and was ready to offer him money, but he refused. That day, he felt inner peace after helping the girl and seeing a bright smile on her face.
Akashdeep has worked on various projects like spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drugs. He also got different people enrolled in meditation programs. Akashdeep believes that if you can reach out to other people and help them, you should do so. He believes that the blessings and prayers received by them can impact your life positively. The Art of Living foundation teaches everyone that each of us is present to serve a purpose for others’ benefit. We should involve ourselves in social services to fulfill our purpose.
Akashdeep is a fine example of being truly committed to social service despite having the best of everything in his life. It truly becomes a cycle of positivity when you do good things for others, and it comes back to you – somehow or the other.
