Chetana Jadhav

Chetana Jadhav hails from Pune, Maharashtra. She completed her graduation with B.Sc and post-graduation in M.Sc from Fergusson College. Chetana’s family comprises her mother and younger brother. She lost her father two years back.

Chetana Jadhav – Her Story

Chetana started learning Kathak at the young age of 12. While learning, she eventually started developing an interest in understanding the ‘Bol’ and ‘Tukada’ Initially, she was self-immersed in learning about the intricacies of Kathak, and she didn’t give a thought to joining a dance class for the same.

Eventually, she began her practice in Kathak by joining dance classes for it. She and her friends started going together to the Kathak classes. She began to appear for the exams held for Kathak, and then slowly, she began to participate in several dance competitions conducted by different dance organizations.

Chetana considers all the big gurus who teach Kathak as her primary source of motivation, like Pt. Rajendra Gangani. She considers him as her most significant source of inspiration as she feels that Pandit Ji’s story and her story are somewhere and somewhat related to each other.

Her second source of motivation is Lord Krishna. When she started performing Kathak on the poems written for Lord Krishna, and while defining Lord Krishna’s story through her dance, she experienced inner peace and happiness.

Chetana has performed at her college’s annual festival ‘Spandan,’ where her performance was highly appreciated by her friends, classmates, and the faculty. She has also performed in a show organized by ‘Devadiga Sangh,’ Pune in 2019. Her talent in Kathak gave her a chance to visit and perform in Thailand two years back. She has learned and performed various dance forms of Kathak, in which Viraha is her favorite one. She was also featured on the social media page of pune_mumbai_dancer in June last year. She had performed on the song ‘Maeri,’ sung by Palash Sen from the album Phir Dhoom (Euphoria).

Chetana has performed in many dance shows and for various annual dance festivals organized by her dance academy. Her dance performances at a superior level include her performances for Pune Got Talent and two other similar dance competitions.

Chetana’s journey has not been easy. She lost her dad, and her guru had left in between. She felt abandoned amid her learning journey. In recent times, she has faced many problems financially as well as mentally. Everything started to affect her mind and health. She was not allowed to enter her dance classes as it was the order of her guru. She was the victim of some political conspiracies by the people who she considered her own.

Even after facing all these problems in her life, she never stopped dancing, neither did she for a second about leaving Kathak. She kept her patience and waited for the right time to arrive in her life to get back to her routine of dancing and practicing Kathak. She realized that whatever had happened with her had pushed her towards the right place. She considers herself lucky because she has always gotten immense support from her family, and even today, they are supporting her wholeheartedly.

Chetana is currently working as an intern in her field of education. She intends to become financially independent first and then decide whether she should teach Kathak by starting her dance academy and contemplating how she can open various dance opportunities for others. She wishes to support and encourage everyone who loves dancing never to let go of their passion, no matter what.
