RJ Shradha Vyas – Her Story

I was born in Mumbai, where I lived for ten years. I did my partial education in Mumbai before moving to Bahrain. My whole family settled there one by one. When I was 15 years old, my mom and masi told me to participate in a beauty pageant. They felt that it was something made for me, and I could easily show my talent there. So I enrolled in it. That’s when I fell in love with the limelight.

After completing my 12th board, I came back to Mumbai. I finished my graduation in commerce and went out looking for acting jobs. I was very determined about becoming an actor. Pageant shows had given me the confidence to try my luck in the film industry.

I tried my luck, but sometimes destiny doesn’t give what you desire. Faith had other plans for me. That’s why my career in acting didn’t take off. During that phase, I used to audition daily, but nothing would work out in my favor. There were times when I gave five to six auditions in a day, but still went home with rejections.

I was tired of struggling, and I badly wanted to give up the limelight career. But my mother and masi kept motivating me, so I continued to move forward. When I came back from Mumbai, I came across an opportunity for hosting events. I was skeptical about it, but my mom encouraged me. She asked me to step further without caring about the result.

My radio revolved around the simple work of recording a voice-over. I had never thought of doing such a job ever in my life. I always wanted to be an actor. However, it was the start of something new in my life, so I thought to give it a try. My voice recording was selected and played over for a week. That’s how my journey of becoming an RJ started.

Some of my family members objected to my decision. They didn’t like the work I was doing, but my mom and masi always supported my choice, whether it was acting or RJ job. Slowly, I paved my way into the radio industry, and then I got a chance to host events and shows. After shifting back to India, I interned with Fever FM.

The job as an RJ attracted me for two main reasons. Firstly, because I was an introvert and the job pulled me out of the box I was locked in since my childhood, It brought me face to face with people. So, being an RJ seemed easy to me because it only needed my voice.

While speaking to people, sometimes I’d question myself over my life choices.

Sometimes I’d fumble, not knowing whether my voice was up to the expectations or not. On radio, you don’t see the speaker’s face and reaction, so you don’t know what the speaker is thinking or if you are good enough or not. Radio is an industry where you will be replaced easily if you are not enough. So to excel in my job. I shaped myself and enhanced my vocal skills.

Just like any other public figure and content creator, I have been bullied and trolled. I didn’t let them affect my self-esteem and confidence. Instead, I took it positively to develop my personality as an RJ.

Apart from that, I liked talking to people. While hosting events, I interacted with a lot of people and I realized how much I enjoyed doing it. That was all, I wanted to showcase my talent without being an introvert. After completing my training with Fever FM, I moved back to Bahrain.

As an RJ I come across many people who feel that with evolving time, the radio will cease to exist, but that’s not true. Radio is so much more than a jockey job. It is evolving with time and has gone through many phases. Starting from a simple radio channel to a whole OTT podcast platform, it keeps getting big. It offers endless opportunities.

But one only survives if one can learn. I also extended myself from radio to other platforms. I created a TikTok account a week before it was banned. Likewise, I gained a good amount of followers there, but everything went down when it got banned. I looked for other platforms to showcase my talent. When corona hit us, I wanted to do something rather than sit at home. That’s when I started focusing on Instagram and its reel sections.

At times, I was demotivated when my content didn’t work as much as I expected. But I chose not to give up. I understand it’s working with time. I dig deep into insights, timings, and knowing my audience better. Not only that, but I posted consistently.

Other insta influencers helped me and that’s how I created a space in the heart of my audiences and brands also reached out to me. I always wanted to be in the limelight and this was a new light. You know, the fact about a dream journey is you can only decide your goal, but you don’t get to decide your journey. That’s in faith’s hand. We reach where we are supposed to reach, but we can’t decide the way. That is beyond our control.

Now, I work with brands and I have many followers. I had the opportunity of hosting top shows on the radio. Besides that, I judge shows and events.

I started my journey as an actor, and here I am, an anchor, RJ, judge, and influencer. I would have never reached here had I given up after the rejections. Luckily, I had my mom and masi boosting me throughout my journey.

My mother always says, “Life is like a race. There will be many hurdles along the way and many opportunities too. Some you may lose, and some you may grab. But don’t stop running, no matter how hard it becomes. Because once you reach the finishing line, you will be satisfied.”

Though I am still on the track, running my race. But I feel satisfied now with whatever I have got out of my life and the opportunities it threw at me.
